Hi, I’m Zachari. I design websites that get out of the way: quiet layouts, honest typography, interactions that feel considered rather than decorated. My working theory is that good design is mostly invisible. Things behave exactly the way you expected, and you never think to wonder why. That’s the compliment.
By day I build those websites for clients. By night I write about how they’re built, why business is mostly people, and what twenty-odd years on the internet has taught me about both. Sometimes the two jobs blur in the best way.
A few things I believe, in no particular order:
- Small sites done well beat big sites done “eventually”.
- The best interface is the one you never noticed was an interface.
- Systems beat willpower, in design and in life.
- Every project deserves a deadline and a personality.
When I’m not doing that, I’m reading (the library keeps the receipts), defending my hover-timing choices to friends who did not ask, or consulting for businesses that want their website to sound like them.
